No bomb or other device was found as Fairburn police investigated a threat Tuesday evening at Georgia Military College, authorities said.

The threat to the college, at 320 W. Broad St., was received around 6 p.m., Fairburn police spokesman Sgt. Anthony Bazydlo said. U.S. 29 was closed from Estes Drive to Elder Street, and locals were asked to say clear of the area.

Teachers told students, who were taking exams, to evacuate the school, Channel 2 Action News said. Tuesday was the first day of finals for this semester, investigators were told.

Police reported around 9:30 p.m. that the search was complete, and nothing had been found.

"The investigation as to who called in the fake bomb threat goes forward from here," Bazydlo said.

Authorities said a student calling in a bomb threat would face serious charges, Channel 2 reported.
