Authorities in Cobb County need the public's help to identify a body found early Wednesday in a small wooded area off Windy Hill Road.

The body was found just before 4:30 a.m. by firefighters called to douse a brush fire behind the Citgo gas station on Windy Hill near I-75, Cobb fire spokeswoman Denell Boyd told the AJC.

Boyd said the body, which was found in the shallow wooded area separating the rear of the gas station from a nearby hotel, appeared to be male.

Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said detectives are treating the death as a homicide.

The man's body was burned beyond recognition, Pierce said. But investigators have believe the victim was a white male, between 5-feet-8 and 5-feet-10 inches tall and between 40 and 50 years old. The man's right arm was amputated below the elbow and he may have walked with a limp because he was a wearing a lift shoe on the left foot.
