Authorities have identified a man whose body was discovered late Tuesday morning in a creek near Cross Creek Golf Course in northwest Atlanta.

The Fulton County coroner’s office identified the man as Joseph Corey Goodwin, 38, of Atlanta.

The cause of death has not been determined and is pending lab results, according to the coroner’s office.

Just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, dispatchers received a call that a man was in the water at the Cross Creek Golf Course in northwest Atlanta and was not breathing.

Atlanta police spokesman Greg Lyon said just before noon that a body had been found in a creek on the northwest side of the course near I-75 and Peachtree Battle Road.

According to golf course management, the body was actually found on the banks of Peachtree Creek, just off Cross Creek property.

There were no obvious signs of foul play, but Lyon said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the man’s cause of death.
