Decatur’s school board will vote on whether to allow students in the Gateway Manor public housing to continue attending city schools even if they live out outside the district during that community’s redevelopment. The vote comes during the monthly board meeting, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Central Office, 125 Electric Ave.

Decatur Housing Authority Executive Director Douglas Faust said Monday he’s still working to find housing for Gateway families during the approximately 18-months-long relocation duration, likely beginning in January. Faust added, however, there are few rental units within city limits, “and most of those are pretty expensive.”

Three board members recently said they will likely vote on allowing the students to stay, but that the school system wouldn’t provide transportation.
