Bicycle thefts increase throughout city

Decatur police report that since Jan. 1, the city’s had 12 bicycle thefts, five from a residential porch or under a deck, two in a residential burglary, and five from commercial locations. Five were unsecured but seven were secured. Spokesman Sgt. Jennifer Ross recommends bike owners keep a record of the brand, model number, serial number and color—suspects are far easier to track down with a serial number. In the 12 thefts, only two owners provided serial numbers.
