Beer release party at Clermont Lounge will feature legendary Blondie

LaGrange brewery says Blondie is inspiration for new beer.

For Blondie, the 40th anniversary at Clermont Lounge on Sunday was more affirmation than celebration. She’s been the most popular entertainer at the Midtown landmark for decades. Now 62, Blondie has been blunted by health problems. Leg surgeries have slowed her dance skills; she suffered a minor stroke last year. Now she’s driven to serve as a spiritual guide for young dancers in need of a mentor.

A new beer inspired by Clermont Lounge legend Blondie is being released later this month.

LaGrange-based brewing company Beacon Brewing Co. created "Crushable" as an ode to the entertainer's penchant for crushing beer cans with her chest while reading poetry.
To celebrate the blonde lager's release, the brewery is throwing a party 8 p.m. Sept. 27. There is a $10 cover charge.

The honor comes as Blondie, 62, celebrated 40 years at the establishment in April.

A 2014 film, AKA Blondie, by local director Jon Watts, delved into Blondie’s personal life and her advocacy for gay rights.
