A Fairburn baby sitter remained in the Fulton County Jail on Thursday, charged with murder in the death last week of the toddler in her care.
Channel 2 Action News reported that that Maria Owens, 42, was arrested by Fairburn police after the 11-month-old boy died from internal injuries. Owens was booked into the Fulton County Jail on Friday, and is being held without bond.
Fairburn police Lt. Vernal Sutherland told Channel 2 that Owens initially called 911 to get help for the child, and police were called after doctors saw the extent of the boy's injuries.
The woman's attorney, Mawuli Mel Davis, told the station that the child had been coughing and Owens was patting him on his back before calling 911, but that she did nothing to harm the boy.
