A mother gave birth to a child Thursday on I-285 and Roswell Road, Sandy Springs police said.

Though the baby's timing was a little off -- the mother was en route to Northside Hospital just a few miles away -- he or she had the good sense to greet the world before rush hour. Sandy Springs police spokesman Steve Rose said the baby was born around 3:05 p.m.

Mother and child were transported to Northside Hospital by emergency personnel where both are reportedly doing fine, Rose said.
