Fulton County officially ended its superintendent search Tuesday with the school board's unanimous vote to hire Charlotte North Carolina school administrator Robert Avossa.
Avossa, currently the chief strategy and accountability officer for Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools, will be on the job June 1 and will succeed retiring Superintendent Cindy Loe.
“Mr. Avossa is a well respected, collaborative leader who will help us expand and build upon our current successes,” said Linda Schultz, school board president. “He impressed us from the beginning with his passion for education and our site visit to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirmed that he is the right person to lead Fulton County. He is a very transparent, open communicator who strives to bring people together to make decisions that result in what’s best for kids.”
Avossa will be paid $238,000 a year, plus perks, and will have a three-year contract with the system of 92,000 students.
