Six weeks after a tentative meeting was set, Avondale Estates still hasn’t heard from developer Euramex Management, which owns nearly 16 downtown acres. Euramex is planning a massive project likely to include townhomes, apartments, restaurants, and retail including a grocery store, not only on its property but also on four additional acres owned by the city.

The two parties, after meeting shortly before Christmas, unofficially discussed a late January follow-up. But Acting Mayor Terry Giager said he hasn’t heard from the developer since. Giager added the city is expecting to see more specific plans with increased greenspace.

“Maybe they are waiting for [this week’s] special election to be over, or they’re waiting to see how the annexation issue is resolved,” Giager said Wednesday night. “Maybe they’re still firming up plans with the [still unnamed] grocery, which will anchor the whole development. But right now, I just don’t know.”
