Avondale Estates announced a special called meeting to vote on its annexation master plan, 5:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at Avondale Estates City Hall, 21 N. Avondale Plaza.

While nearly doubling the city’s size the map changes the city’s total assessed property value to 24 percent commercial, 76 residential from the current 11/89. Though admitting the current map probably “will not remain intact” through the General Assembly, Acting Mayor Terry Giager reiterated the commercial properties of Rio Circle, the DeKalb Famers Market and Walmart remain key to the plan.

“We can’t afford [a map with] too much residential,” he said. “We haven’t raised taxes in seven years, and we’d like to keep it that way.”
