Avondale Estates will launch its redesigned web site Oct. 8, but already it’s scrapped the format’s public bulletin board. The site was designed to accept anonymous submissions, a feature soundly rejected by each of the four attending commissioners at a recent work session.
“It’s scary because of what happened here with [the city’s “Nextdoor” web site],” said Commissioner Lindsay Forlines. “Those anonymous postings turned ugly and negative.”
City Manager Clai Brown added that the city’s official site had a bulletin board when he was hired in 2008, but commissioners soon shut it down because of anonymous postings and the fact it was often used for campaigning.
“Bottom line,” Brown said, “we don’t have a big enough staff to monitor that thing full time.”
