Avondale Estates’ notorious “erector set” has finally been demolished with the cleanup continuing into the week. The partially completed steel structure at Maple Street and College Avenue sat on two acres purchased by Euramex Management in August 2014.

There are still no known plans for the property.

The building was intended as a residence/business location for Bonnie and Parke Kallenberg who own Finders Keepers Consignment. Construction began in early 2008 and ceased for good later that year when the economy tanked.

Demolition of the longtime eyesore may signal an upturn for Avondale’s downtown.

Earlier this month South City Partners announced plans for a mixed used property two blocks west of the erector set location. Meanwhile a new restaurant called Rising Son is moving into the Tudor Village space formerly occupied by The Bishop, which closed in November.
