Avondale Elementary School was temporarily evacuated Thursday afternoon due to smoke in a classroom.

No injuries were reported, the city of Avondale Estates said in a statement.

Investigators believe burned wiring in a heating, ventilating, and air conditioning unit caused the smoke at the DeKalb County school.

Students and staff members were later allowed to return inside, a school spokesman said.
