Two Forsyth County residents were bitten by a rabid fox, authorities say.

The fox was found late Monday in the Pilgrim Mill Road area in the northeast end of the county, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

The fox was put down, and subsequent tests showed the animal had tested positive for rabies.

Deputies and officers with the state Department of Natural Resources conducted interviews with area residents and determined that two had been bitten by the animal.

The two residents received medical treatment at Northside Forsyth Hospital and were released, according to the sheriff’s office.
