The Georgia State Patrol took a man into custody after he led Paulding County deputies in a chase in a stolen rescue vehicle, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Zachary Paulk broke into the Paulding fire station on Tabor Church Road on Monday shortly after 10:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office told Channel 2. The station was closed while the crew was out training.

Paulk allegedly stole a fire truck and drove it through the closed doors of the fire house. He then drove onto Mt. Tabor Road, hitting mailboxes along the way, officials said.

Deputies pursued Paulk until he crashed into a Ford F-150 on Bobo Road, officials said.

“(He) came down the road. He was swerving,” Richard Crowe, the owner of the Ford, told Channel 2. “I got over as far as I could and he smashed me.”

Crowe’s truck was totaled and the front end of the rescue vehicle was destroyed.
