Austell city officials will hold hearings 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. July 27 in the Council Chambers, Austell City Hall, 2716 Broad St. on an increase in the property tax rate by about 16.91 percent.

A house with a fair market value of $100,000 would have a proposed tax increase of $18.80 annually. For a non-homestead property, a house with a fair market value of $125,000 would have a proposed annual tax increase of $23.50. The tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 3.25 mills, an increase of .47 mills.

Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 2.78 mills.

Past millage rates for Austell have been 3.06 mills for 2014 to 2016 and 4 mills in 2012 and 2013.
