No tax increase is proposed by Austell city officials in the new budget that takes effect July 1.

The City Council held its first budget hearing and first reading for the public on May 4 during an online Zoom meeting.

However, budget details were not presented during that meeting.

There is no tax increase or decrease in the $19.3 million proposed budget, according to City Clerk Elizabeth Young in an email to the AJC, so that the millage rate will remain at 3.25.

The only change in the budget is an increase of $513,000 for personnel expenses and healthcare premiums, Young wrote.

Those expenses are for 115 full-time employees, including elected officials, she added.
