Four public hearings will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Austell City Hall, 2716 Broad St. SW, by the city council on the destruction of the first four of around 25 houses that were damaged by the 2009 flood.

Two houses are at 1129 and 1138 Pontiac Circle and the other two are at 2080 and 2090 Sanders Drive.

City officials are running legal ads this month, requesting the appearance of the owners of these houses at the city council meeting.

“We’re hoping these individuals will tear down these houses so that we don’t have to pay. There is no doubt that all of these buildings are unsafe to children in the neighborhood,” Fire Chief Tim Williams said.
