Austell Mayor Joe Jerkins said he would like to proceed with tearing down several houses in the city that were damaged by the 2009 flood.
During Monday’s pre-agenda meeting, City Attorney Scott Kimbrough said the city “can file unsafe building abasements and start getting those properties cleaned up.”
Then the city could place tax liens on those properties to cover the city’s cost of tearing down the houses, Kimbrough added.
Jerkins said the houses are mainly on Sanders Drive and Pontiac Circle.
