The Austell City Council voted 6-0 Monday to establish a six-month moratorium on paint and body shops, car lots and garages.

During this time, Mayor Joe Jerkins said city officials will review their procedures on granting approval or denial to these kinds of businesses.

By this time next year, Community Development and Parks Department Director Jim Graham said, “You will see your anchors all over the place. It’s happening faster than I’ve seen.”

Graham added that he would like to disclose the interested developers but cannot until commitments are made.

“If our plan works, you’re going to see a great investment (in downtown). We need to sell Austell,” Graham said.
