The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Atlanta collected more than $13.6 million in criminal and civil actions during the past fiscal year, U.S. Attorney Sally Yates said.

“The pursuit and collection of criminal and civil penalties benefits both victims and taxpayers,” Yates said. This past year, for example, victims bilked by former Marietta real estate agent Teresa Langston Shaw in a church fraud case received more than $595,000 in restitution through the combined efforts of the Atlanta office and the bankruptcy court.

Additionally, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Atlanta also worked with other Justice Department offices to collect more than $123 million in jointly pursued cases.
