The city of Atlanta will end the four-hour-a-week furloughs on its workers today.

Mayor Shirley Franklin ordered the furloughs in a cost-savings move in December. The City Council voted 8-7 two weeks ago in favor of a property tax that finance officials said would help bring in enough money to end the furloughs.

City Hall was closed for most services on Fridays as a result of the furloughs. City Hall will now be reopened on Fridays.

Also today, the city will reopen Fire Station 23, at 1545 Howell Mill Road, which was closed in December to help balance the budget.
