The new week began sunny and cool, but temperatures -- and the chance of rain -- will climb later in the week.

Temperatures just before daybreak Monday were in the low to mid-30s across metro Atlanta, and Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton predicted highs later in the day in the upper 50s.

Tuesday will be partly cloudy and a little warmer, with highs in the low 60s and lows in the upper 30s.

Minton said Wednesday will begin partly sunny, but clouds will move in later in the day, and there's a 30 percent chance of evening rain. Highs will be in the mid-60s, with lows in the mid-40s.

That rain could linger for a couple of days, as Minton is forecasting a 40 percent chance of precipitation on Thursday and a 30 percent on Friday.

Late-week highs will be in the 60s, with lows around 50 degrees.
