The Big Thaw has started.

After almost a week of freezing temperatures, snow, ice and dangerous roads, Atlanta began getting back to normal Saturday.

The trend continues Sunday.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said the area would see mostly sunny skies Sunday with a high of 49 degrees.

Saturday afternoon, temperatures reached the upper 40s, which helped melt some of the ice patches left still on some roads.

Nitz said temperatures will drop below freezing only briefly in the next few days and the remaining ice in shaded areas should melt.

MARTA resumed its normal bus service Sunday.

There may be a few isolated showers Monday and an increased chance of precipitation Tuesday, he said.
