The mercury dipped below the freezing mark across much of metro Atlanta early Tuesday, but forecasters are promising temperatures in the 70s later this week.

Normal low for the date is 42. The normal high is 61, and that's about where the metro Atlanta area landed Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday will be partly cloudy and warmer with highs in the mid to upper 60s, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

Thursday will be partly to mostly cloudy with highs in the low 70s, he said.

There is a 60 percent chance of rain Friday, with highs in the low 70s.

The chance of rain is 50 percent for both Saturday and Sunday, with highs dipping back into the low 60s.
