Strong storms with scattered heavy hail moved through the metro Atlanta area Thursday night.
Hail up to the size of quarters fell in Cobb County and parts of north Fulton County, Channel 2 Action News reported. Lightning strikes and downed trees also were reported.
Two trees fell on a house in East Cobb, and lightning caused a house fire in Johns Creek.
Homeowner Jake Hill told Channel 2 that his 7-year-old daughter heard a crack and moved out of the way just in time as the trees crashed through the master bedroom of the family's Converse Court home in East Cobb.
The fire in Johns Creek damaged the Prestwood Drive home of newlyweds expecting twins, Channel 2 said. Fortunately, Joshua Slater and his wife, Cat, had not yet moved in. However, some of their property was destroyed.
"No one was in there, thank God," Cat Slater said. "We wanted to move in last weekend, so good thing we didn't."
The storms moved quickly, and pleasant conditions are right around the corner.
Friday will be mostly sunny with highs around 80 and lows in the low 60s, Channel 2 chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said. There is a 20 percent chance of rain.
It will be mostly sunny Saturday, as well, with high temperatures again reaching the 80s.
Sunday will be even warmer with highs in mid 80s.
