Thunderstorms were mostly confined to the mountain counties and east Georgia northeast of Macon on Wednesday, but forecasters warned that isolated severe storms could pop up Thursday afternoon anywhere in the northern half of the state.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said the pattern of afternoon storms will persist into the weekend, with the chance of rain 30 percent through Saturday, then 20 percent on Sunday.

The primary hazards from any severe storms on Thursday will be damaging wind gusts to 60 mph and large hail.

Afternoon highs the rest of the week will be in the low 90s, climbing closer to the mid-90s on Sunday, Minton said.
