The work week began on a foggy note Monday, with forecasters predicting rain for much of the week.

While the week also began with temperatures about 20 degrees above normal, readings will be much cooler by Friday.

A dense fog advisory was posted through 10 a.m. Monday for much of north Georgia, including all of metro Atlanta.

The patchy fog had reduced visibility to about 3/4 mile at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport at 6 a.m., but the Federal Aviation Administration was reporting no significant flight delays.

National Weather Service radar showed a broad area of rain moving across across the southern suburbs and extending into much of middle Georgia at 5 a.m.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said the chance of rain and possibly thunderstorms is 80 percent on Monday, 50 percent on Tuesday and 80 percent again on Wednesday.

By Thursday, the rain chance diminishes to 20 percent, and Friday should be sunny, Minton said.

Minton is predicting highs in the 60s through Wednesday, with lows in the 50s. Cooler weather later in the week will keep highs in the 50s on Thursday and in the 40s on Friday, while overnight lows will dip in to the upper 20s by Friday.

Normal highs for mid-January are around 52 degrees, with lows normally around 34.
