Put on a jacket and grab your umbrella before heading out Wednesday.

Look for a chilly, windy morning, with light rain to come by day’s end, forecasters say, but things will improve by the weekend.

“It is cold out there this morning and it’s going to be a very cold, raw day,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.

While a freeze warning was in effect in the north Georgia mountains, temperatures were in the low 40s in the metro area.

The mercury should rise omly to the low 50s through the day.

Clouds and rain will move in by early evening, Minton said.

“The forecast models showing … showers developing in that east wind through 7 o’clock, and temperatures taking a dive at that point, falling back to the lower 40s,” she said.

Cloudy skies return for Thursday with morning lows predicted in the high 30s, and reaching the low 50s. By the weekend, Minton predicts highs in the 60s.
