An approaching weather system will bring a chance of rain to metro Atlanta for the next few days, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said early Thursday.

She said showers that were moving through Alabama before daybreak Thursday should start working their way into west Georgia by early afternoon.

Minton said a few thunderstorms are also possible across metro Atlanta by later Thursday afternoon and evening.

"It's not going to be a lot, but we will be seeing a few spots that get some of those showers and possibly a little thunder and lightning," she said.

Minton put the chance of rain at 30 percent on Thursday and continuing through the weekend.

Highs will be in the low 80s Thursday and Friday, warming into the mid- to upper 80s on Saturday and Sunday. Lows will be in the mid- to upper 60s.

Atlanta's rainfall total for 2012 is 13.12 inches, 4.17 inches below normal.
