Atlanta teen jobs program draws crowds

More teens than expected turned up for a summer jobs program in downtown Atlanta on Wednesday. The job fair was held at the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency near Turner Field.

The mayor's summer jobs program can hire 1,050 eligible teenagers ages 14-18. Teens who qualify for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) services are eligible for the jobs program.

The orientation on Wednesday was for names "A" through "H." Additional orientations will be held Thursday and Friday morning. Atlanta has received more than $3.3 million in federal stimulus funds for the jobs program.

It was standing room only in the auditorium for orientation for the summer jobs program.

Atlanta police helped with the unexpectedly large crowd. The program funds work experience opportunities for young people.
