Atlanta Technical College officials held a ceremony Friday to mark the opening of the new Brenda Watts Jones Allied Health and Technology Complex.

Construction on the $14.8 million building began in 2007. Officials said it provides space to teach students and produce graduates to address the shortage of heath care workers in the area.

The two-story, 70,000-square-foot building includes 20 classrooms, 20 labs and 14 dental hygiene clinic stations.

The facility is named after Brenda Watts Jones, who was the college president from 1996 until her death in 2007.
