The man found dead in a car in the city's West End late Wednesday morning apparently shot himself, Atlanta police said.

The incident happened about 100 yards from Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless.

"At this point in the investigation, the death is consistent with being a suicide," police said in a statement.

The shooting happened shortly after 11 a.m. in the 900 block of Donnelly Avenue in southwest Atlanta.

The victim was shot in the chest. Atlanta police and homicide detectives went to the scene for about an hour around 11:30 a.m.
