Atlanta police say they are one step closer to closing a homicide case from 1988.

Willie Taylor, 74, was arrested Monday by the Atlanta police’s Fugitive Unit and charged with the 1988 murder of Leonard Hill.

On June 26, 1988, Hill’s body was found dumped on the side of the road on Rawson Street at Formwalt Street S.W., police said. Hill died from two gunshot wounds, police said.

Atlanta police received new information in 2015 that led to a lengthy investigation resulting in Taylor’s arrest.

“The investigators in the APD Homicide Unit work non-stop to help close cases because it’s important to bring closure to the victim’s family,” Police Chief George Turner said. “We won’t rest in our efforts to solve crimes, no matter how long it takes.”

Taylor has been booked into the Fulton County Jail.
