Atlanta opens new fire station

The city of Atlanta celebrated the grand reopening of Fire Station 7, located in the heart of Atlanta’s West End neighborhood.

Station 7, nicknamed “The Rock,” was opened in 1894, making it the oldest fire station in the city. In 1910, Station 7 was moved to its current location on West Whitehall Street in the West End. The station was closed in 2009 due to city budget cuts.

Station 7 has the capacity to house eight firefighters, which includes an EMS supervisor and a Quick Intervention Crew. Both units are designed to respond quickly to medical emergencies and provide rapid assessment and treatment of patients in pre-hospital care settings. The station will also be equipped with Ford F-250 vehicles with Advanced Life Support systems.

Since 2010, Mayor Reed has made unprecedented investments in public safety. Through these investments, all AFRD fire engines are at full staffing levels and the department is one of only 19 in the world to earn an ISO Class 1 rating and international accreditation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
