Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has named Duriya M. Farooqui interim chief operating officer for the city, effective Dec. 9. Farooqui currently serves as the city's deputy chief operating officer. In that role, she is responsible for oversight of several departments, including Public Works; Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs; Planning and Community Development; Information Technology and the Office of Program Management.

As planned, chief operating officer Peter Aman will end his two-year stint with the city and return to Bain and Co. Reed said he would announce a permanent COO next summer after conducting an executive search.
