A youth baseball organization will have the use of the Grant Park ball fields for another five years under a proposal heading for Atlanta City Council approval.

The Council’s Community Development/Human Resources Committee passed a resolution to extend Grant Park Baseball Inc.’s use of the fields at its namesake park, 537 Park Ave. SE.

In exchange for running a baseball program for city youth 4 to 11 years old and maintaining the facility, the group has free access to the fields, its home base for more than 20 years, and first dibs on their use certain days of the week during the baseball season.

Its most recent five-year agreement ended March 29, and the group is operating under a 90-day extension that expires June 28. The commissioner of Parks and Recreation recommended the renewal.
