The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department will conduct live burn training exercises for rescue and firefighter personnel 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 31 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The exercise, part of the annual certification for Airport Rescue firefighters, will take place at the Atlanta Fire Training Center, 860 Lake Mirror Drive in College Park.
Fire department officials advise residents that this is strictly a training exercise. However, as a result of this drill, heavy dark smoke may be visible from nearby roads and interstates. This smoke may prompt a high volume of concern from motorists and residents.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world’s busiest, serving more than 104 million passengers annually with nonstop service to more than 150 U.S. destinations and 70 international destinations in more than 50 countries. There is a direct economic impact of $34.8 billion in metro Atlanta and a total direct economic impact of $70.9 billion in Georgia.
