Universal Tennis Management will continue to manage and operate five tennis centers for the Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation, according to a resolution approved recently by the Atlanta City Council.

The Council authorized the mayor to enter into a second renewal of the agreement with Universal to manage the Sharon E. Lester Tennis Center in Piedmont Park; Washington Park Tennis Center; Chastain Park Tennis Center; Bitsy Grant Tennis Center in Atlanta Memorial Park, and McGhee Tennis Center in John A. White Park.

Universal has managed city tennis facilities since 2009. Its current five-year contract, with two, 2-year renewal options, expires this month. The Council’s action extends it by two years.

According to its website, the Atlanta-based Universal was founded in 2009, and its six partners have more than 100 years of tennis experience as pros and as directors of public and private clubs. In addition to the Atlanta facilities, the company manages the Blackburn and DeKalb tennis centers for DeKalb County and the privately owned James Creek Tennis Center near Johns Creek.
