The city of Atlanta Department of Corrections recently announced that it will launch its annual Love Our City community improvement campaign through Feb. 28. Residents are encouraged to submit requests to ATL 311 for trash, debris and graffiti removal, according to a press release.
The work will be completed by detainees who participate in the Inmate Work Detail Program at the Atlanta City Detention Center. Clean-up requests submitted to the Atlanta DOC will be assessed for feasibility and fulfillment.
“We are excited to once again partner with ATL311 on the Department of Corrections’ sixth Love Our City community improvement campaign,” said Interim Chief Vance Williams, City of Atlanta Department of Corrections. “What better way for the citizens of Atlanta to demonstrate their love for our city on Valentine’s Day than by taking action to help eradicate blight in their communities?”
To submit a request, please dial 311, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Requests including but not limited to trash pick-up, cutting grass, debris removal, painting over graffiti and boarding abandoned buildings, will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and will be scheduled accordingly. Any requests received that do not fall within the scope of the department’s capabilities will be forwarded to the appropriate city agency for consideration.
The DOC allows eligible inmates from the Atlanta City Detention Center to earn “good time” on their respective sentences by participating in the Inmate Work Detail Program. Eligible inmates are defined as non-violent, minimum-security detainees who are charged with misdemeanor offenses.
