Atlanta City Council member Michael Julian Bond presented a proclamation honoring Shirley Sherrod, a former U.S. Department of Agriculture official, at the 2011 Women's Day celebration at Central United Methodist Church in downtown Atlanta on Sunday. Sherrod was forced to resign in July 2010 from her position as Georgia State Director of Rural Development after out-of-context video excerpts from one of her speeches was posted on the Web. White House officials eventually apologized, and Sherrod was offered a new position. She chose to leave the agency.
