Atlanta City Council members opened their Monday meeting with a moment of silence for longtime Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Bill Torpy’s son Michael Torpy.

Michael Torpy died June 10 after his two-year battle with cancer. He was 20.

Bill Torpy has long covered Atlanta City Hall, and was known for his harsh criticism toward former Mayor Kasim Reed and his administration.
