An Athens elementary school aide accused of covering a kindergartner's mouth with duct tape to keep the student quiet no longer works for the school district, an official told the AJC Monday.

The paraprofessional had been on administrative leave while the Clarke County School District investigated the alleged incident at Whitehead Road Elementary School.

School district spokeswoman Anisa Sullivan Jimenez said she could not comment on details of the aide's departure.

The child's parents were informed about the alleged duct taping after the principal found out Thursday, the Athens Banner Herald reported.
