A man suspected in a weekend shooting in Athens that left one person dead and another wounded was captured Tuesday night in Gwinnett County, an Athens newspaper reported.

Melvin Lewis Brown, 26, was arrested by Gwinnett police after a tip that he would be going to an apartment complex in Gwinnett, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

Athens-Clarke County police Lt. Mike Tyndell told the Banner-Herald that Gwinnett officers made a traffic stop on Brown’s vehicle as it approached or entered the complex and made the arrest.

Brown was charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to the Banner-Herald, police said Brown got into an argument Sunday afternoon with Javious Cordez Tucker, 24, of Watkinsville that escalated into gunfire.

Tucker was killed and a second person was wounded.
