The Atlanta Freethought Society and American Atheists are planning a protest rally at Cobb County’s 27th annual prayer breakfast on May 5.

The groups are opposed to the county government’s support for a religious exercise, and resent taxpayer money being spent to promote prayer, group leaders said Friday. The rally will take place outside the breakfast at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

Shan Cooper, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, will be the keynote speaker. The breakfast is held in observance of the National Day of Prayer.
