Asheley Jewell, the Stephenson High sophomore critically wounded in an apparent road-rage shooting, has begun speaking again, her family told the AJC Tuesday.

"Today our family is thanking God for a miracle," Jewell's cousin, Ebony Phillips, wrote in an e-mail. "Asheley began speaking over the weekend and requested a Pepsi. The doctors are amazed. This is more than the doctors expected, but exactly what we knew God could do. Thanks again for all your prayers."

Jewell, 15, remains at Grady Memorial Hospital. On Saturday night, March 5, she was riding in a vehicle with three friends when another car began chasing theirs on Old National Highway in south Fulton County, police said. Shots were fired and Jewell was struck in the head.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (404)-577-8477.

Jewell is the daughter of the late A.J. Jewell, a "Real Housewives of Atlanta" personality who was the onetime fiance of cast member Kandi Burruss. A.J. Jewell died in 2009.
