Gwinnett police have arrested a man and charged him with murdering a man found shot to death outside his home near Auburn.

Marquavis Benton, 26, was arrested Friday in Griffin and transferred to the Gwinnett jail, said Gwinnett Cpl. Jake Smith Monday. He is charged with felony murder and armed robbery in the death of Brian Whitfield, 45, who was found dead in his driveway off Flowery Branch Road on Dec. 6.

His pickup truck and other household items were missing, police said.

The Griffin Police Department assisted Gwinnett homicide detectives in the arrest, Smith said.

Smith provided no other detail on how Benton was identified as the suspect. Previously police said tipsters were calling in leads on who might be responsible in the killing.
