Many of the state’s colleges and universities will remain closed on Thursday as Georgia deals with another round of winter weather.
Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia’s main campus in Athens, along with Georgia State, Kennesaw State and Clayton State and Southern Polytechnic State universities announced the additional snow day early Wednesday. Also cancelled will be all schools in the Atlanta University Center, including Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse and Spelman colleges. Announcements were expected later from other institutions. The bad weather also forced some college sporting events to be rescheduled.
Also cancelled are Thursday events that were part of Morehouse College’s Founders Week, including a two-day black male summit that was to be held at the college in conjunction with the White House, and the Founder’s Day Crown Forum. No decision has yet been made on Friday’s events, including the inauguration of Morehouse President John S. Wilson Jr.
Students have taken to social media with questions about the missed class time.
Georgia Gwinnett College has already announced two student make-up days on May 1 and May 2. Other institutions plan to address the lost instructional time when campuses reopen.
On Wednesday, Georgia State officials said the university’s plan is to have each instructor work through a plan for the missed class time with their students.
In addition to colleges and universities, most of the school systems in the metro Atlanta area will also be closed again Thursday.
