Two Atlanta police motorcycle officers were injured in separate wrecks Friday morning.

Both officers suffered minor injuries, Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones told the AJC.

Several northbound lanes of the Downtown Connector were blocked during Friday morning's commute while authorities investigated a multi-vehicle wreck involving an Atlanta police motorcycle officer.

The wreck happened before 8 a.m. on I-75/85 northbound south of University Avenue.

Jones said the officer struck the back of another vehicle when traffic came to a sudden stop.

Four lanes of the interstate were shut down south of Downtown, leaving only the two right lanes and the HOV lane open. All lanes were reopened just before 9 a.m.

About the same time, a second Atlanta police motorcycle officer wrecked on West Paces Ferry Road near I-75.

Jones said that officer apparently wrecked his bike after striking a pothole.
